Increasing participation here at St. Peter assures the continuation of these and many more programs of our diocese. Choose Life Adult stem cells are showing promise in growing bones to replace those damaged from birth defects, arthritis, or injury. Cheekbones and a jaw bone have been grown from stem cells in the patient’s own bone marrow and subsequently implanted. “The availability of personalized bone grafts engineered from the patient’s own stem cells would revolutionize the way we currently treat these defects,” commented a researcher at Columbia University which, along with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, has achieved success in this area.  (NRL News, 10/09)
