LENT INFORMATION

FAT TUESDAYWe are hoping that our people will make every effort to come to our church family supper.  The Knights of Columbus will be catering red beans and rice, and ask that everyone bring a pot luck item (or goodies of some sort) to contribute to this event.  If red beans and rice are not your favorite dish, you will surely find something to your liking, and you might even make a new friend!

ASH WEDNESDAYThe holy season of Lent begins this Wednesday.  Just about every Catholic goes to church on that day to receive ashes and begin the holy season.  Masses will be at 8:00 am, and 6:00 pm.

LENTEN MEDITATIONSWe have provided a nice little daily meditation for families for the season of Lent.  These booklets will be made available after the Ash Wednesday masses.  Please take one only if you plan on using it.

FAST AND ABSTINANCEAsh Wednesday is a day of fast and abstinence, as are all the Fridays of Lent.  Fast and abstinence, as you probably know, means one full meal, and two snacks, no meat.

FRIDAYS OF LENTIn addition to our regular masses, we will have Stations of the Cross and Holy Communion each Friday in Lent, beginning at 6:00 pm.

FLOWERS AND MUSICDuring Lent, flowers are not to be used to decorate the altar, with the exception of the 4th Sunday of Lent, solemnities, and Feasts.  Music Instruments are played only to support the singing, with the same exceptions listed above.

YOUTH LENTEN GATHERING There will be a Lenten Gathering for the youth of our parish on Sunday, February 25 at 5:00.  We will serve dinner, have worship music, and a devotional thought.  All youth in grades 7 through 12 are invited to attend.  Contact Jeannie Logan or Lisa Thomas for more information.

RCIA

Because of the conflict with the Red Beans & Rice dinner, we will be unable to meet this Tuesday.  It is very important that we all plan for the following Tuesday, February 27, right after the evening mass.

LADIES AUXILIARY

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus wishes to thank everyone who contributed to their Christmas card sale, religious icon sale, or just made a donation.  Through funds raised, the Ladies Auxiliary made a $300 contribution to the Building Fund.  Thanks to all who made this possible through your purchases.

BULLETIN ANNOUNCEMENTS - The deadline for announcements will be on Thursday at noon.

Please contact the rectory at 226-2490, or send an email to stpeter@cableone.net.

SINCERE GRATITUDE

Sincere thanks to the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus for their generous contribution of $300 to the Building Fund.

USHERS - MINISTERS OF WELCOME

We are making a list of everyone that would like to help serve our church as an usher.  This is open to any adult member of our church.  If you would like to serve in this capacity, please sign you name on the list on the altar.

LISTS TO BE AVAILABLEOnce we have finalized the lists of servers and ushers, we will be sending out schedules and lists of names to each person involved so that when you are unable to serve, for whatever reason, you will be able to get a replacement.

PLEASE…..I am asking families, if at all possible, to be responsible for bringing the gifts to the altar on behalf of the entire church family at that particular mass.  (Ushers – If no family volunteers before mass, please ask a family to serve in this special ministry)

PLEASE REMEMBER…..to check thermostats, lights, doors, and clean up when leaving our buildings.

Also, think carefully before ordering.  When a box arrives, usually a bill arrives shortly thereafter.

MISSISSIPPI CATHOLIC

February is Mississippi Catholic Press month.  If you haven’t already done so, please drop your envelope with payment for the Mississippi Catholic in the offertory sometime during this month.  The cost of the paper is $18.  If you are not receiving the Mississippi Catholic and would like to, please contact Carolyn at the rectory.
