FIVE WAYS TO MAKE YOUR PARISH A BETTER PLACE

Think of yourself as a part of your parish family. Family members don’t always agree, but they do feel a strong commitment to the family.

Use your gifts and talents for the good of the parish. If you’re a singer, public speaker, musician or just a friendly, helpful person, get involved as a lector, usher, greeter, extraordinary minister of Holy Communion or part of the parish music ministry.

Attend parish events. Whether it’s a mission, a lecture or lawn fete, it’s important to support the spiritual, education and social parts of parish life. Invite family members and friends to join you!

Support your parish financially. Parishes need your help with operational expenses, energy costs, supplies and maintenance. Be generous.

Pray. Keep your pastor, the parish staff and the parishioners in your daily prayers. Pray also for the return of Catholics who have strayed from practice of their faith.      (by Lorene Hanley Duquin)

PARISH – We are most grateful to Vince and Anne Saia who have generously offered to sponsor a breakfast

FAMILY - or brunch on Sunday May the 25th immediately after the 9:00am Mass. This should be a perfect

BREAKFAST - opportunity for our Church Family to get together in the Family Life Center, have breakfast, coffee, chit-chat and get to know one another a little better.

ESPECIAL THANKS – To all who prepared food or helped in any way with our First Holy Communion reception. We particularly thank Donna Walker and Lisa Thomas for coordinating the reception. It was a wonderful day and a wonderful celebration. Thanks to Irene Stark and Donna Mumme who worked with the children and anybody who helped in any way.

CATHOLIC SERVICE APPEAL Last weekend our parishioners and the people of our diocese gave a strong response to Bishop Joseph Latino’s appeal for us to “Care to Share” our very best. Anyone who has yet to contribute to our Catholic Service Appeal can take a pledge envelope home. Please place in the parish offertory collection or mail directly to Bishop Joseph Latino. Along with Bishop Latino, we thank you for your generosity.

PROTECTION OF OUR CHILDREN – In accordance with the Chapter for the Protection of Children and Young People passed by the U.S. bishops in Dallas, the Diocese of Jackson wishes to encourage any victim of sexual abuse by a member of the Catholic Clergy to come forward and begin the healing process. When an allegation is found to be credible, counseling will be offered, so that the healing process can begin in accord with our present diocesan policy. We encourage any victim to contact Mrs. Linda Raff, Victims Assistance Coordinator at 601-355-8634 Ext. 728.

CHOOSE LIFE – “Abortion and euthanasia have become preeminent threats to human dignity because they directly attack life itself, the most fundamental human good and the condition for all others.” (Living the Gospel of Life, no. 5) Without the right to life, all other rights are meaningless.

VOCATIONS – “May the intercession of Mary, Mother of the Church and Mediatrix, create in the hearts and minds of young men and women in our diocese an openness to serve Christ and his Church as priests, and women and men religious.”
