ASSUMPTION OF THE VIRGIN MARY

Tuesday, August 15th is a Holy Day of Obligation.  As we do not have a priest for this, we will have a Communion Service on Tuesday evening at 6:00 pm.

AID TO THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IN AFRICA - The second collection next week will be for the Catholic Church in Africa.

LADIES AUXILIARY

The Ladies Auxiliary will be having a meeting on Wednesday, August 16th at 7:30.  They also have religious articles for sale.  If you are interested in purchasing some, you may contact Connie Fariss for more information.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

Due to the heat in the CAB, the Knights of Columbus meetings have been temporarily suspended.  Meetings will resume sometime in September.  Watch for more information in the bulletin, or from Lee M.

OLE MISS CATHOLIC STUDENTS

From Father Joe in Oxford – “If your parish has young men or women coming to Ole Miss this fall, we welcome them and look forward to their arrival.  At the current time, we do not have a Catholic Church in Oxford.  We are making strides toward building and, with the approval of the Bishop, will soon begin.  However, our Campus Ministry is vibrant and we boast more than 400 families on the roster.  We meet every Sunday for Mass on the campus of Ole Miss at the Paris-Yates Chapel at 8:30 am, 11:00 am, and again at 5:00 pm.  It is terribly inconvenient and disappointing for new students and guests to see we have no facility.  However, we are certainly pushing ahead to see our Church built.  If anyone would like more information, please call 662-234-6073.”

BISHOP’S CUP

The Annual  Bishop’s Cup Golf Tournament will be held at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, September 13th at Colonial Country Club in Jackson.  Last year the Bishop’s Cup was won by St. Jude Parish, Pearl.  Bishop Latino and his team from Cathedral Parish in Jackson will try to win it back.  There will be prizes galore, T-shirts, social and dinner, and an auction.  Registration forms are in the back of the church.  For more information, call the Catholic Foundation at (601)960-8479.

CHOOSE LIFE

Kate Adamson was a 33-year old mother of two when she suffered a massive stroke, leaving her in a coma clinging to life.  Doctors told her husband not to treat her, but he insisted on treatment for this “perfect candidate for mercy killing” who could hear the discussions of her death but was unable to speak.  She not only survived but now travels the country speaking about the sacredness of all human life.  The Pro-Life Reporter, Spring 2006.

COFFEE AND DOUGHNUTS

Due to the heat in the CAB and lack of participation, coffee and doughnuts after mass on Sunday has been temporarily suspended.  Look for more information in September as the temperatures hopefully go down.

CATHOLIC MEN’S CONFERENCE

The third annual Catholic Man’s conference, “Who do you say that I am?”, is set for August 18 – 20, 2006 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Clarksdale.  The conference begins at 7:00 p.m. on Friday and ends Sunday at 12:00 noon.  For more information, please pick up a brochure in the church vestibule.

RCIA

The RCIA is the usual way that people come into full communion with the Catholic Church.  If you or anyone you know is interested in the Catholic faith, would like a refresher course in the Catholic faith, or have lapsed from the Catholic faith, we will begin a very special class around the end of September or beginning of October.   More information will be available on this when Father Ruane returns.

HOSPITAL…….. Due to the privacy act, hospitals no longer provide a list of patients for our use as clergy.  Accordingly, I need your assistance.  Please call the parish office when you have a family member, a friend, or relative hospitalized so that I may visit with them and pray with them.   –Fr. Ruane
