SUNDAY SCHOOL (CCD)

Once Father Ruane returns, we will begin registration for Sunday School.  In the meantime, we are trying to get our classrooms prepared and ready for the start of the school year.  If you were a teacher and have any Teachers Editions, Videos, Activity Books, etc., please return them to the Education Building.  This includes teachers that have books they will still be using this year.  We need to inventory what we have, and see what we need to order.  Please turn them in ASAP so we can get this taken care of before the year begins.  If you have any questions, contact Frankie Fortier.

SPECIAL COLLECTIONS

AID TO THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IN AFRICA - The second collection this week is for the Catholic Church in Africa.

REBUILD CHURCH, REBUILD HOPE - There will be a second collection next week to aid in the recovery efforts of the Archdiocese of New Orleans and the Diocese of Biloxi.  These two dioceses, so devastated by the ravages of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, are still in a state of unimaginable need.  In the Diocese of Biloxi, 428 of 433 church-owned properties were destroyed or seriously damaged.  This new collection is needed simply because last year’s collection focused on immediate humanitarian relief.  This collection focuses on rebuilding churches, schools, and other essential parts of the parishes’ infrastructure which are needed to rebuild people’s hope.

OLE MISS CATHOLIC STUDENTS

From Father Joe in Oxford – “If your parish has young men or women coming to Ole Miss this fall, we welcome them and look forward to their arrival.  At the current time, we do not have a Catholic Church in Oxford.  We are making strides toward building and, with the approval of the Bishop, will soon begin.  However, our Campus Ministry is vibrant and we boast more than 400 families on the roster.  We meet every Sunday for Mass on the campus of Ole Miss at the Paris-Yates Chapel at 8:30 am, 11:00 am, and again at 5:00 pm.  It is terribly inconvenient and disappointing for new students and guests to see we have no facility.  However, we are certainly pushing ahead to see our Church built.  If anyone would like more information, please call 662-234-6073.”

BISHOP’S CUP

Friendly competition, flight prizes, social, dinner, auctions, Latino Lira, and door prizes.  Join in the fun and fellowship at the Bishop’s Cup Golf Tournament at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, September 13th at the Colonial Country Club in Jackson.  The low net score of any 4 golfers of a parish will bring home the traveling Bishop’s Cup.  Come just for the social, dinner/auction at 5:00 pm.  Registration forms are in the back of the church.  Support the charitable works of the Catholic Foundation.  For more information, call (601)960-8479.

CHOOSE LIFE

In the miniscule body of an embryo in the first stages of life, we “may see and almost touch the hand of God…The love of God does not make distinctions between the newly conceived infant still is his or her mother’s womb, the baby, the youth, the grown adult or the elderly, because in each of them He sees the sign of His own image and likeness.”  Pope Benedict XVI, speech on 2/27/06 to the international congress on “The Human Embryo Before Implantation.” National Catholic Register, 3/12 – 3/18/06.

HOSPITAL…….. Due to the privacy act, hospitals no longer provide a list of patients for our use as clergy.  Accordingly, I need your assistance.  Please call the parish office when you have a family member, a friend, or relative hospitalized so that I may visit with them and pray with them.   –Fr. Ruane
