SUNDAY SCHOOL (CCD)

Anyone interested in being a Sunday School teacher, substitute, CYO helper, or anything involving the youth of our parish will need to attend a meeting after mass on Sunday September 10.  The meeting will last about an hour, and will go over what needs to be done to make sure everyone is in compliance with the Child Protection program.  If you have questions, call Frankie Fortier at 417-9406.  Also, don’t forget if you have any teaching materials, please turn them in so we can figure out if we need any new material.  We need to inventory what we have, and see what we need to order.

SPECIAL COLLECTION

REBUILD CHURCH, REBUILD HOPE - The second collection this week is to aid in the recovery efforts of the Archdiocese of New Orleans and the Diocese of Biloxi.  These two dioceses, so devastated by the ravages of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, are still in a state of unimaginable need.  This new collection is needed simply because last year’s collection focused on immediate humanitarian relief.  This collection focuses on rebuilding churches, schools, and other essential parts of the parishes’ infrastructure which are needed to rebuild people’s hope.

CATHOLIC SERVICE APPEAL UPDATE

Presently, 42 of our parishioners have pledges $4,112.  At the end of last year’s CSA, 44 parishioners pledges $6,940.  Bishop Latino and I ask everyone to give prayer and/or a gift before a final CSA parish update on September 5.

CHURCH BOWLING LEAGUE

The Strike Zone will be starting a new Church Bowling League beginning September 7.  The league runs for 15 weeks.  Anyone interested in playing should attend a meeting at Strike Zone at 6:00 p.m. August 31.  The league is open to anyone 13 years old and up, and the cost is $8.25 per person per week.  Contact Strike Zone at 294-9090 for more information.

BISHOP’S CUP

Are you registered to play in the Bishop’s Cup Golf Tournament at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, September 13th ?  It’s not too late.  Registration forms are in the back of the church.  See if our parish can compete with Bishop Latino and his team and bring home the Bishop’s Cup.  Last year the Bishop’s Cup went to St. Jude Parish in Pearl.  Part of the net proceeds will help support the Bishop Brunini Trust for our priests’ retirement.  For more information, call (601)960-8479.

CHOOSE LIFE

“Young people realize that if we don’t speak out about what happened to Terri (Schindler), about what is happening to innocent disabled Americans every day behind the closed doors of nursing homes and hospices, if we don’t fight it with everything we’ve got, it will happen here.”  Joleigh Little, NRL News, 4/06

RCIA

The RCIA is the usual way that people come into full communion with the Catholic Church.  If you or anyone you know is interested in the Catholic faith, would like a refresher course in the Catholic faith, or have lapsed from the Catholic faith, we will begin a very special class around the end of September or beginning of October.   More information will be available on this when Father Ruane returns.
