MOVING IN/OUT

Sometimes summertime is often a time of transition for families.  We want to say farewell to any families that may be leaving us and thank you for being a part of our parish family.  We extend a warm welcome to any new individuals or families coming to St. Peter.  Won’t you please register with the parish and if need be, give us a call at 662-226-0530.

IT’S BEEN NICE…….Occasionally we see a new face at one of our daily masses which is nice to see.  Won’t you make an effort to join us sometime?  You will find it a fulfilling experience.

WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY – There will be no Bible Study this week.  The class will resume on July 23.

HOSPITAL…….. Due to the privacy act, hospitals no longer provide a list of patients for our use as clergy.  Accordingly, I need your assistance.  Please call the parish office when you have a family member, a friend, or relative hospitalized so that I may visit with them and pray with them.   –Fr. Ruane

CATHOLIC SERVICE APPEAL UPDATE

Presently, 39 of our parishioners have pledged $3,742.  At the end of last year’s CSA, 44 parishioners pledged $6,940.  Bishop Latino and I ask everyone to give prayer and/or a gift.  View our parish’s progress at www.catholicserviceappeal.org.

RCIA

The RCIA is the usual way that people come into full communion with the Catholic Church.  If you or anyone you know is interested in the Catholic faith, would like a refresher course in the Catholic faith, or have lapsed from the Catholic faith, we will begin a very special class around the end of September or beginning of October.  If you have any questions, please feel totally free to call Father Ruane at the number listed above.

CHOOSE LIFE

Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that essentially legalized abortion on demand for all nine months of pregnancy, has long been considered to be poor constitutional law, even by those who support its outcome.  U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a Roe supporter, states, “it would have been a more acceptable judicial decision if it had not gone beyond a ruling on the [state abortion law] before the court.  Heavy-handed judicial intervention was difficult to justify and appears to have provoked, not resolved, conflict.”  National Catholic Register, 2-26-3/4/04 editorial, “Lone Ranger’s Last Stand.”

CATHOLIC MEN’S CONFERENCE

The third annual Catholic Man’s conference is set for August 18 – 20, 2006 in Clarksdale.  The conference theme is “Who do you say that I am?”.  The conference will be held at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Friday and ending on Sunday at 12:00 noon.  It is for men ages 21 and older and the cost is $45 per person.  For more information, please pick up a brochure in the church vestibule.

WORDS OF WISDOM – When I reflect on the number of disgruntled people who I know who have gone to a better world, I am moved to lead a different life.  –Mark Twain
